Ancient Mesopotamia (now modern day Iraq, Syria and Turkey) was home to one of the world's first known code of laws known as the Code of Hammurabi. It was mainly located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This area is referred to as the "Fertile Crescent." Their achievements led the way to laws and written languages still in use today.
